ACTIVE TRAVEL
Active travel simply means making journeys in physically active ways - like walking, wheeling (using a wheelchair or mobility aid), cycling, or scootering. Active travel improves our health, creates a safer and more pleasant environment as local traffic is reduced, and helps the climate crisis by reducing Carbon emissions.
Greener Brockenhurst aims to encourage active travel in and around our village as the natural choice for short journeys. We are currently collaborating with the following 3 local initiatives addressing this issue:
-
Friends of Brockenhurst with their Intra Brockenhurst Safe and Pleasant Walking /Cycling Routes initiative
-
Lymington Transition Cycle Group who are doing brilliant work on trying to establish safe cycle routes between towns and villages in the south of the forest.
-
The National Park Authority Cycle Working Group who are working to increase the number of permitted off road cycle tracks with the Verderers, alongside trying to devise ways of discouraging people from cycling where they should not.
In addition, we are in dialogue with the Parish Council over the loss of the cycle racks outside of Tesco.
As mentioned above, the Lymington Transition Cycling Route group is pushing for a safe cycling network that links up the Forest’s main towns and villages. Please use the QR code below to fill out their survey on what routes would be most useful to you. The responses will be analysed and submitted to Hampshire County Council. The more people who respond, the greater the impact.
